Spring?! Pruning, Planning and Planting Season ?

By March 30, 2023Pleasant Valley Orchard

We’ve all been waiting for spring to show up this year, haven’t we? It might feel like it’s taking its time, but, don’t hate us, a later spring carries less risk for the growing season than an early spring.

Like you, we enjoy the longer days and appreciate the more moderate temperatures while we work outside. We hear the sounds of spring all around us, robins, sand hill cranes and the geese as they return from their winter vacations. But I have to say, we can’t wait for mud season to begin in earnest and all this white stuff to be gone for a few months.

As we wait for that to happen, our team continues to prune. Given the winter we’ve had; we’re behind where we’d like to be. Usually we close in on finishing up pruning around Easter; but not this year. Another plus for a late spring.

Now that April is here, we’re busy planning for the upcoming season. Check out our preliminary fall activity schedule.

As we turn the corner to full spring; we’ll be uncovering strawberries, planting apple trees and more strawberries. Spring is filled with optimism to the year to come – once we get there. ?
